The 2009 Second Quarter Macroeconomic Analysis released on July 29 by the Survey and Statistics Department of People’s Bank of China showed that several indexes were all pointing to a positive trend about China's economy.

The macroeconomic heat index in the second quarter increased 7.8% to -30.8% over the previous quarter, and it was the first positive change after five quarters of decline. Although the index was still in the contraction zone, enterprisers' worry about China's cooling macro economy was significantly weakened.

Another index, the enterprise climate index in the second quarter rose 4.6% over the previous quarter to 12.1%, which ended the declining trend since the third quarter of 2008.  The industry value added component of the index and the leading indicators component remained downward, but the slowing pace of reduction showed the trend of stabilization.

Meanwhile, the entrepreneurs confidence index in the second quarter was 68.4%, 7.2% higher than the previous quarter and 7.5% higher than the lowest value (60.9%) in the fourth quarter of last year.  The bankers confidence index in the second quarter was 40.0%, jumped 14.4% over the previous quarter.

The Shanghai composite index rose 24.7% in the second quarter from 2373.21 points at the end of first quarter to 2959.36 points on June 30. The questionnaire for urban depositors showed that the resident stock ownership climate index in the second quarter was 52.3%, nearly tripled the 18.6% in the previous quarter, and the residents' confidence to stock market was picking up.
