The Standing Meeting of the State Council recently discussed and principally passed Several Opinions on Supporting Fujian Province to Speed Up Construction of Economic Zone West of the Straits and during that time, insiders deemed that release of the move offers help to Taiwan and the Mainland to jointly fight against the financial crisis.
Since the concept of economic zone west of the Straits was firstly put forward in 2004, Fujian province has constantly deepened various exchanges and cooperations with Taiwan and the advantage of pushing west the Straits is being turning up, thus laying a solid foundation for further accelerating cross-Straits economic and trade cooperation.
In 2008, GDP of Fujian province firstly broke through the threshold of RMB1t; as of January 2009, Fujian had accumulatively approved 9743 Taiwan-funded projects (exclusive of shift in investment of the third place), with contractual Taiwan investment of USD20.336b, and actual capital in position of USD14.27b.
