Mr. Shi Pengfei, vice-president of Chinese Wind Energy Association was quoted by Tuesday's China Daily as saying that China plans to build seven wind power bases.   Once completed in 2020, the seven bases will have combined capacity of around 120 GW, as compared with the country's total projected power capacity of 1,500 GW.  China's wind energy resources are mainly located in the northern regions and the coastal areas. Construction of large-scale wind power bases in these areas is in line with the healthy development of the industry.

Mr. Xie Zhenhua, deputy director of China's National Development and Reform Commission, told reporters last week that as of the end of 2008, China's solar power capacity had reached 120 million square meters, ranked number 1 in the world.  Wind power reached 10 million KW, ranked number 4 in the world.  Water power was also ranked number 1 with 163 million KW.  Nuclear power reached 9.1 million KW.
