China Unicom Ltd, one of China's three major State-owned phone companies, said Wednesday it earned 3.6 billion yuan in the first quarter following its merger with rival China Netcom. Its totral quarterly revenue was 37.917 billion yuan, and earnings per sahre was 0.15 yuan.
China Unicom (Hong Kong) Limited(formerly known as "China Unicom Limited") was incorporated in Hong Kong in February 2000 and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange (CHU) and the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (00762) on June 21, 2000 and June 22, 2000 respectively. On June 1, 2001, the company was included as a constituent stock of the Hang Seng Index.
The company merged with China Netcom Group Corporation (Hong Kong) Limited on 15 October 2008. The ultimate parent company of the Company, China United Network Communications Group Company Limited (formerly known as China United Telecommunications Corporation) ("Unicom Group") also officially merged with China Network Communications Group Corporation ("Netcom Group") in early January of 2009.
