A survey shows that Chinese bankers feel more confident about China's economy, according to the People's Bank of China. The survey shows that Chinese bankers' confidence about China's economy jumped 14.4% from the first quarter to 40%. They expect China's economy to keep getting better in the next quarter. The macro economy expectation index reached 39.1%, 5% higher than the last quarter. More importantly, this expectation index ended the trend of 6 month consecutive decline. However, history shows that confidence index is not very reliable. It can be seen from the chart that the lowest point of the bankers' confidence index was in the third quarter of 2007.
The bank business index reached 64.5%, 0.6% higher than the first quarter. They expect the banking industry to turn better in the next quarter. As can be seen from the chart below, this index had been declining for the last 5 quarters, this new value seems to start turning the trend upward, even though still weak.
