China's top legislature started its bimonthly session Monday morning, with the focus on a draft amendment to the renewable energy law and the country's efforts in tackling climate change.

In the international front, China has also made some progress in working together with the U.S., breaking hurdles that have stood in the way of an international climate treaty for almost as long as there have been efforts to craft one.

With Chinese and U.S. officials on July 28 pledged to cooperate on clean-energy technology, the two countries may be moving toward agreement on how to rein in the 40 percent of the world’s carbon dioxide pollution that comes from their cars, factories and power plants.
